A herding or pastoral dog is one that has either been trained in herding or is part of a breed that has been developed for herding. 
Often extremely intelligent and very active, herding dog breeds are a perfect match for a high energy family. 
And if you’re not careful, you just might find yourself being corralled into a corner!

Australian Cattle Dog
Highly energetic, focused working dog bred to herd, an Australian Cattle Dog is best kept busy. This breed loves with the same intensity that they bring to their work.

Australian Shepherd
Aggressive in their work, yet very affectionate and gentle with humans. An intelligent, devoted friend and guardian, the Australian Shepherd breed is naturally protective of those they love.

Bearded Collie
A very intelligent, high energy dog.  Fun loving, boisterous, and caring, the Bearded Collie requires a moderate amount of grooming and lots of loving attention.

Belgian Malinois
One of four Belgian Sheepdogs.  A very smart and obedient dog who is serious and watchful with strong protective and territorial instincts.

Belgian Sheepdog
A very active, strong breed.  They tend to bond with one or two people and it’s advised that a Belgian Sheepdog owner socialize their dog from birth.

Belgian Tervuren
 As companion animals, Tervueren are loyal and form strong bonds with their family.  They are good watch dogs, and love activity such as herding, obedience, agility, frisbee, tracking, or protection work.

Border Collie
The Border Collie is regarded as one of the most intelligent, agile dog breeds.  They thrive on praise, are very sensitive to their owners, and excel at obedience training.

Bouvier des Flandres
The Bouvier des Flandres is an obedient dog with a pleasant nature. He looks intimidating, but is actually calm and gentle. An excellent guard and watchdog that is easy to train.

Briard
They have exceptional hearing ability and are basically kind, but with a strong protective instinct, making a Briard a wonderful, alert watchdog.  Definitely not a breed for everyone, they need an owner with strong leadership.
