Exotic Pets Information
Ants
Having colonized almost every landmass on Earth, the 11,880 known
ant species are of particular interest because of their highly
organized colonies or nests which sometimes consist of millions of
individual ants.
Chinchillas
Chinchillas and their relatives,
viscachas, are small, nocturnal rodents native to the Andes
Mountains in South America. Chinchillas, or “dragon cat”, have the
highest fur density of any land animal with more than 20,000 hairs
per square cm.
Ferrets
In
many ways, ferrets act like kittens that never grow up. They have
energy, curiosity, and are always interested in their surroundings.
Ferrets are cute, small, elongated carnivorous
mammals considerably more people-oriented than cats.
Frogs
Adult
frogs are characterized by long hind legs, a short body, webbed
digits, protruding eyes and the absence of a tail. Most frogs have a
semi-aquatic lifestyle, but move easily on land by jumping or
climbing.
Gerbils
Once
known simply as "desert rats", Gerbils were first introduced to
the pet industry in 1964. Gerbils are cute, fuzzy, non-aggressive
rodents that love the company of humans and other gerbils.
Goats
For
thousands of years, goats have been used for their milk, meat, hair, and
skins all over the world. In the last century goats have also gained
some popularity as pets.
Guinea Pigs
Guinea
pigs are widely considered to be good pets. Guinea Pigs are
generally easy to care for, and love the company of both the young
and old.
